The 3MDG-funded Community-based Malaria Prevention, Control and MARC Project provides technical assistance and support toSocial Malaria Workers to reduce the morbidity and mortality in their respective townships with the agreement of Ministry of Health and Department of Health... This agreement aligns with the work plan and log frames. MHAA is expected to work on all activities under this agreement in close collaboration with NMCP and other partners in Myanmar.

MHAA has been working on a humanitarian project in Myanmar for the last five years since 2009. It has been implementing a community-based malaria prevention, control and MARC project where the project has been funded by 3Diseases Fund in two townships, Ponnagyun and Kyauktaw, in Rakhine State and one township in Bago Region (East)since July 2011. And it has also expanded its project in Phruso and Papun townships in Kayah and Kayin states starting from July 2013.

MHAA is responsible for ensuring that the work in these townships is consistent with the MHAA Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health, Nay Pyi Taw.

Under this agreement, Community-based Malaria prevention, Control and MARC Project has been accomplishing the following objectives:

Objective 1: Improving access to and use of early diagnosis and quality treatment according to the national guidelines.

Objective 2: Decreasing the drug pressure for the selection of artemisinin resistant malaria parasites by stopping the use of mono-therapies and sub-standard / fake drugs.

Objective 3; Limiting the transmission of malaria by vector control and personal protection.

Objective 4: Increasing migrant and mobile population access to and use of malaria diagnosis, treatment and vector control measures including personal protection.

 

2. ACTIVITIES

This section includes activities related to program management and capacity buildings.

  • Recruitment and capacity building of project staffs.
  • Selection of sites and selecting and training of volunteers.
  • Provision of early diagnosis and effective treatment to malaria patients residing in the project areas.
  • Strengthening of preventive measures through BCC/IEC/HE sessions.
  • Distribution of long-lasting insecticide nets and treatment of nets with insecticide tablets.
  • Setting up of Community Feedback Mechanism boxes to enable communities to provide feedback to the project.
